2015 Answering the Call postcard

ISO is proud to announce that it has appointed Thomas Weber, CFO, EFO, MPA, MiFireE, the new national director of ISO Community Hazard Mitigation. A 35-year veteran of the fire service and a retired fire chief, Chief Weber will work with the fire service and other community officials on structural fire protection initiatives, Public Protection Classification (PPC™) grades, building code issues, and emergency management services. ISO is a Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK) business.

“I’m looking forward to representing ISO and interacting with my colleagues around the country,” said Chief Weber. “Community hazard mitigation is in my blood, and it’s what ISO is all about. I’ve long admired this organization and am proud to have this opportunity.”

Since 1971, ISO has collected and evaluated data from more than 50,000 fire protection areas across the United States on their structural fire suppression capabilities for use in PPC grades. Through on-site evaluations, the program provides an objective, countrywide property insurance standard that helps fire departments plan and budget for facilities, equipment, and training. Chief Weber’s experience and knowledge will enhance those efforts.

“Chief Weber’s career epitomizes ISO’s commitment to preventing and limiting fire loss,” said Robert L. Andrews, vice president and chief field operations officer of ISO. “He’s respected in the field and has extensive experience working in domestic security, natural disaster response, wildfires, and flood mitigation. He has provided consulting assistance to fire, police, emergency medical, and emergency management service providers.”

Chief Weber started as a firefighter in Sunrise and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and he rose to become Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director for the Town of Manchester, Connecticut, and Fire Chief for Port Orange, Florida. He served as president for the Connecticut Fire Chiefs’ Association and Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association. He’s a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Institution of Fire Engineers, National Society of Executive Fire Officers, Florida Society of Executive Fire Officers, and Volusia County Fire Chiefs’ Association.

A graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, Chief Weber has been accredited as a Chief Fire Officer since 2001. He’s designated as a Type III IMT Operations Chief, has been a peer reviewer for the Chief Fire Officer Designation program since 2001, and is a certified Fire Service Instructor III. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor’s degree in professional studies from Barry University.
